Analyse the various sources to look in depth at examples of institutional racism in the criminal justice system. Map Projections
Continuing with our look into perspective and bias in history, students analyzed how multiple types of sources include bias, even sources that seem factual like maps. Students took brief notes from the PowerPoint into their journals and then worked on the Map Projections packet. All maps necessary for completing the worksheet can be found in the packet.

Scale and Perspective
Today students took notes on the PowerPoint as we discussed how scale and perspective can impact how we view and learn about historical events. After a brief presentation, we watched the Ted Talk by Malcolm Gladwell called "The Unheard Story of David & Goliath" to analyze perspective and bias in history. Students then responded to questions about the Ted Talk in their journals.

Fact vs. Opinion PowerPoint
Today we analyzed Fact vs. Opinion in historical sources and began examining the importance of understanding perspective and bias in historical sources. We also began to discuss the importance of using multiple sources to try and understand the past as best as possible. During the block period, we watched the Ted Talk "Danger of a Single Story" and discussed issues with perspective, bias, and multiple sources in history. We ended the block period going over the Quarter 1 Geography Test. Information on this can be found on the Calendar and Geography Test pages of the website.
